We are growing up in an environment that depends more and more on digital technologies. Our social, study and leisure spaces are being invaded by technology everywhere, to the point where the division between public and private, online and offline, no longer exists. At a crucial moment of development, this leaves people exposed to many challenges, such as technological habits and addictions, information pollution, discriminatory algorithms and data surveillance.

PROGRAMME

The O Que o Futuro Quer programme creates spaces for training and critical thinking so that, together, we can reflect critically on the digital environment we want to live in now and in the future. Want to be part of this space? Come closer and see what is on the programme:

10am - O Que o Futuro Quer workshop What is it about our smartphones that gets us hooked? What lies behind every selfie? Do you know what happens in the manufacture of a smartphone? There is a technology that knows what we like, who we know, who we are, what we do and where we are — want to find out? Let us find out together, take an X-ray of these questions and debate them.

2pm - Data Detox workshop Imagine you could do a data detox — that’s right. DA-TA DE-TOX. When we connect to apps, platforms, websites and online services, we leave behind a huge accumulation of personal data that leaves our identities exposed out there, and the impacts are enormous. Let us find out together where our data is, how to clean it up, how to improve the security and privacy settings on the platforms and how to keep that clean-up going regularly. And a bonus: you will learn how to identify disinformation and set up the digital well-being features on your smartphone.

4.30pm - Educator training Do you want to educate your community and your organisation about privacy, security, disinformation and digital well-being? Now is the time! You will learn from our team, educator to educator, how to organise teaching resources, and how to educate and guide people on privacy, security, disinformation and digital well-being using the Data Detox, The Glass Room and What The Future Wants resources. And at the end you will have access to all the materials and facilitation resources to use in your own community.

5.30pm - Debate panel What digital environment do we want to live in now and in the future? What possibilities are there for changing behaviour, and what ways are there of hacking things in our favour? What tricks and good practices can we put to work in everyday life? We will answer these and other questions collectively in a debate panel in which everyone takes part.
