We are growing up in an environment ever more dependent on digital technologies. Our social, study and leisure spaces are being invaded by technologies everywhere, so that the division between public and private, online and offline, no longer exists. At a crucial moment of development, this leaves them exposed to many challenges, such as technological habits and addictions, information pollution, discriminatory algorithms and data surveillance.

PROGRAMME

The What The Future Wants programme creates spaces for capacity building and critical thinking so that we can reflect together, and critically, on the digital environment we want to live in now and in the future. Do you want to be part of this space? Come closer and see what is on the programme:

Data Detox Workshop

Imagine you could do a data detox — that’s right. DA-TA DE-TOX. When we connect to apps, platforms, sites and online services we leave behind a gigantic build-up of personal data that leaves our identities exposed all over the place, and the impacts are enormous. Together we will find out where our data is, how to clean it up, improve security and privacy settings on the platforms and keep up that cleaning regularly. Oh, and a bonus: you will learn how to spot disinformation and set up the digital well-being features on your smartphone.

What The Future Wants Workshop What is it in our smartphones that gets us addicted? What lies behind every selfie? Do you know what happens in the making of a smartphone? There is a technology that knows what we like, who we know, who we are, what we do and where we are — want to find out? Let’s find out together, take an X-ray of these questions and debate them.

Educator Training Do you want to educate your community and organisation in privacy, security, disinformation and digital well-being? Now is the time! You will learn from our team, educator to educator, how to organise the teaching resources, educate and give guidance on privacy, security, disinformation and digital well-being using the Data Detox, The Glass Room and What The Future Wants resources. Oh, and at the end you will have access to all the materials and facilitation resources to apply in your community.

WHO CAN TAKE PART

  • Young people (adolescents and adults);
  • Educators (teachers, social workers, community leaders, facilitators and anyone who wants to learn and teach);
  • Local community (all residents of the local community are invited).

Minors may take part provided they are accompanied by an institution or legal guardian, or else if they have written authorisation from their legal guardian. Use our minors’ authorisation template, fill it in, ask the legal guardian to sign it and hand it to our team at your check-in.
