The journey of Gabriel Sustentável with the support of the Fundo da Quebrada
The Gabriel Sustentável project focused on the structural and institutional strengthening of the ONG Gabriel, through concrete deliverables aimed at inclusion, the continuity of services, and the consolidation of the organization’s work in the territory. Over the course of its execution, the initiative directly benefited 210 people, among them 100 women, 50 men, 5 people of other genders, 10 people with disabilities, 60 children and adolescents, and 130 Black, mixed-race, or Indigenous people.

Accessibility as the priority of the action
The main deliverable of the project was the construction of the accessibility ramp at the headquarters of the ONG Gabriel, defined as a priority after the readjustment of the action plan. The work was carried out with adequate materials and qualified labor, ensuring functionality, durability, and better access conditions for people with disabilities, older people, and other audiences with reduced mobility. With this, the initiative directly confronted a physical barrier that limited the participation of some of the beneficiaries in the organization’s activities.
More than a structural improvement, the ramp represented a deliverable with an immediate impact on the routine of the organization and on the experience of the community served. By ensuring safer and more dignified access to the headquarters, the project helped to make the space more inclusive, welcoming, and coherent with the proposal of care and social service developed by the institution.

Institutional strengthening to sustain the services
In addition to the ramp, the project included the payment of the CRESS annual membership fee and the production of 20 institutional t-shirts. The payment of the membership fee ensured the legality and continuity of the social services provided by the organization, reinforcing the ethical and technical work of the team. The t-shirts, in turn, strengthened the institution’s visual identity at actions and events, contributing to the organization’s recognition in the territory. Some of them were also sold, generating a complementary source of resources for the maintenance of the activities.
These deliverables show that the Fundo da Quebrada was important not only in making a physical work feasible, but also in strengthening the institutional conditions necessary for the continuity of the ONG Gabriel’s work. The combination of accessibility, technical regularity, and institutional identity gave more solidity to the organization’s work.

Readjustment of the plan and strategic choices
During execution, the project underwent important adjustments to respond responsibly to the real conditions of implementation. The increase in the costs of materials and labor for the construction of the ramp required a revision of the budget, with the reallocation of resources initially planned for a gastronomic event. The decision, made with the authorization of the Fundo Quebrada em Movimento, made it possible to ensure the completion of the work, understood as the most strategic deliverable in the face of the needs of the community and of the organization’s own headquarters.
Results and progress of the initiative
The results achieved justify this prioritization. The completion of the ramp promoted concrete inclusion by eliminating access barriers to the organization’s headquarters. The payment of the CRESS annual membership fee ensured the continuity of services within legal and technical parameters. The t-shirts, in turn, helped to broaden the visibility of the institution and also opened up a possibility of generating complementary income. The project fulfilled its mission of strengthening the ONG Gabriel and expanding its capacity to provide services with more dignity, safety, and organization.
There was also progress not initially foreseen. The execution of the project strengthened the relationship of trust with the local community, especially through transparency in conducting the changes and the choice to prioritize accessibility. It also broadened the institutional visibility of the organization and generated important lessons for the team in planning, negotiation, and adaptation in the face of financial and logistical setbacks.

Prospects for the next activities
The possibilities of continuity rest on the very foundations already strengthened by this project. The ramp will continue to benefit, on a daily basis, people with disabilities, older people, and other audiences with reduced mobility who attend the organization. The CRESS annual membership fee ensured the regular maintenance of social services, and the experience with the t-shirts can be expanded in new editions, both to reinforce the institutional identity and to support income-generation strategies. In addition, the organization intends to keep seeking partnerships and new open calls to make feasible actions that remained pending, such as the acquisition of the laptop and the holding of community mobilization and fundraising activities.
In the case of Gabriel Sustentável, the Fundo da Quebrada was important because it made it possible to transform a concrete accessibility need into a permanent deliverable for the community, while at the same time strengthening the institutional base of the organization. The project shows that, even with readjustments and execution limits, well-guided choices can generate direct impact, broaden the community’s trust, and leave a real legacy for the territory.
