Casa Hacker’s free programme offers 30 places for state secondary school students; applications are open until 31 May
Hackerclubes, the free creative education programme run by Casa Hacker for young people from the outskirts aged between 15 and 29, is accepting applications until 31 May (Wednesday). The 2025 edition takes place in Campinas (SP) and Sumaré (SP), with 30 places reserved for young residents of outlying neighbourhoods interested in exploring new possibilities for the future through art and technology.
More than a course, Hackerclubes is a movement that connects young people from the outskirts to digital languages and urban artistic expression, encouraging them to create their own projects with a social purpose. The training programme runs from June to October, with more than 90 hours of in-person activities, including workshops, mentoring and creative challenges in the fields of artificial intelligence applied to art and design, creative and interactive electronics, 3D modelling and printing for urban interventions, and virtual reality and immersive experiences.
During the programme, participants develop innovative solutions for their territories, bringing together technical knowledge, artistic expression and community engagement.
“Hackerclubes was born from the desire to show that technology is neither neutral nor exclusive. It can, and should, be a tool of expression, resistance and collective construction of possible futures,” says Geraldo Barros, executive director of Casa Hacker.
Those interested can apply through Casa Hacker’s official website [casahacker.org/hackerclubes]. The selection process values diversity, creativity and motivation, taking into account the paths, dreams and transformative initiatives that the young applicants wish to bring to life in their communities.
“Our role is to build bridges and widen horizons. We want these young people to see themselves as producers of knowledge, culture and innovation, rather than passive consumers. Hackerclubes is an invitation to occupy the spaces of technology with identity, affection and social transformation,” Barros adds.
At the end of the programme, the projects developed will be presented at a public showcase, with the aim of giving visibility to the ideas, talents and voices emerging from Brazil’s outskirts.
In Campinas, the course will be held at the Instituto Federal de São Paulo, at Rua Heitor Lacerda Guedes, 1000, in Cidade Satélite Íris; in Sumaré, the sessions will take place at the Sociedade Beneficente São Judas Tadeu, at Rua Madre Maria Villac, 42, in the São Judas Tadeu neighbourhood. Activities are scheduled to start on 5 June, running on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Hackerclubes programme is delivered by Casa Hacker and the Ministério da Cultura with sponsorship from Coca- Cola FEMSA Femsa Brasil and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus through the Lei de Incentivo à Cultura.
