Living in peripheral neighborhoods makes access to innovations in technology and culture difficult. Even with these obstacles, in 2022 Coletivo Dandara reframed their individual life stories and turned them into poems with the mentorship of writer Katia Marchese at the Casa de Cultura do Parque Itajaí. The idea of a published book with these stories seemed far from becoming reality due to the lack of financial support and credibility in the project.
The turning point with the Hub
The turning point came through the connection with the , which drove the book Dandara: Somos Poesia to become a materialized reality. The launch took place at Casa de Maria de Nazaré (Casa dos Anjos), located in the Jardim Liliza neighborhood within the territory of Campo Grande, also the headquarters of the Hub Quebrada em Movimento.
This event deeply marked all the poets and collaborators, proving that investing in peripheral cultural movements generates immediate and lasting social impact for the whole community.
Daily Life and Identity: Poetry Grounded in Life
The stories in the collective book are lived experiences from the perspective of their authors and their daily life living in the city of Campinas. In the poem 213, written by member Vera Franco, the bus line that runs the route from the territory of Campo Grande to downtown Campinas is used as the title; the narrative contains hardships experienced in transportation.
The collective promotes the freedom to express oneself through writing and turns art into a spokesperson for the pains and hopes of ordinary women who are merely demanding their right to belong with dignity.
At the Quebrada Talks 2025 event, organized by the Hub Quebrada em Movimento, Coletivo Dandara member Vera Franco takes part, telling her life story.
The materialization of this book made it possible for women who previously felt inside a bubble to recognize their own strength and capacity. Proving that dreams considered impossible can be achieved through collective organization and adequate technical support.
The conclusion is that the Hub Quebrada em Movimento did not support only a cultural initiative, but rather the creative capacity of the periphery, because the project reconfigured the perspectives of a territory, reaffirming that social innovation is born from the community’s leadership and voice.
